Development, Diplomacy and the Diaspora

This project identifies existing and potential contributions by the African diaspora in Australia to both the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and to Australia-Africa relations. It explores how such diaspora contributions could be more effectively utilised and supported by innovative community engagement strategies and foreign/development policies. To impact policy and scholarship, the project (i) directly linked AAUN researchers, African-Australian diaspora organisations, the African Union and the Africa/Australia diplomatic corps through a conference, two workshops and a public forum at which relevant research, policies, evidence, experiences and ideas were presented and critically discussed; and (ii) produced outputs including two scholarly journal articles, a diaspora mapping document and a policy report containing recommendations for key stakeholders.
