UWA Hosts Nigerian Government Delegation on Geosciences Study Tour

On 9 September 2019 UWA hosted a delegation of visiting Nigerian government officials seeking information and opportunities for collaboration in technical capacity building in the geosciences. The delegation was hosted by Prof. Martin Saunders, Director of the UWA Centre for Microscopy, Characterisation and Analysis (SMCA) and has the purpose of supporting the further development of Nigeria’s National Geosciences Research Laboratories (NGRL), whose aim is ‘to promote social-economic development and environmentally responsible mineral development in Nigeria through the provision of accurate and analytical support services, research and development, and other services/products’.

The delegation included, Dr Abdulkadir Muazu, Permanent Secretary (MMSD); Dr Abdulrazak Garba, Director General, Nigerian Geological Survey Agency (NGSA); Fatima Umar Shinkafi, Executive Secretary Solid Mineral Development Fund; Frank Odoom, Director, Mines Inspectorate Department; Mustapha Mohammed, Deputy Director (Remote Sensing) NGSA; Aminu Usman, Administrative Assistant - PS MMSD; Ambassador Bello Kazaure Husseini, High Commissioner; Mrs Asaju Bola, Minister Counsellor; and Mr. Martins Imonite, Relationship Manager, Corporate & Commercial Banking, ANZ, Perth.

The delegation was joined by Mr Michael Wingate, Manager, Geochronology and Geochemistry, Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety, WA Government, and Dr David Mickler, Director, AfREC.
