AfREC Director Co-Convenes WUN Global Africa Group research impact workshop at the University of Nairobi, Kenya

On 29-30 November 2018, AfREC Director Dr David Mickler, in his capacity as Co-Chair of the Worldwide Universities Network Global Africa Group (WUN GAG) with Professor Maano Ramutsindela (University of Cape Town), co-convened the annual WUN GAG Research Impact Workshop at the University of Nairobi, Kenya.

 

The workshop, themed “Implementing the SDGs in East Africa: Translating Collaborative Research into Policy Impact” brought together 60 senior and junior researchers from the Network with regional policy practitioners to explore research-policy linkages in relation to this workshop theme. The workshop included speakers from the African Development Bank, UN Assistance Mission for Somalia, Australian government, Kenya Business Guide, African Child Observatory and The Conversation Africa, among others.

 

The workshop was structured into a Forum on Day 1, which comprised of sessions on ‘Key Policy Challenges for SDG Implementation in East Africa’, ‘The Roles of Collaborative Research in Sustainable Development in East Africa’, and ‘Translating Collaborative Research on Sustainable Development into Policy Impact in East Africa’, and a series of Masterclasses on Day 2, on ‘Policy Writing: How to Translate your Research into Policy Briefings’, ‘Research Communication: How to Communicate your Research via the Media’, and ‘Grant Writing: How to Translate your Research into Funding Applications’.
