University of Cape Town Vice-Chancellor Visits Perth

On 28 February 2020, Prof. Mamokgethi Phakeng, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Town (UCT), South Africa, visited Perth following her keynote address on ‘University leadership in a changing world’ at the Universities Australia Conference 2020 in Canberra.

 

Several AfREC members joined the VC for a Perth UCT alumni event as well as other meetings. At the alumni event, the VC shared her vision for the University of Cape Town and provided an update on key developments taking place at the institution, including the Nelson Mandela School of Public Governance.

 

UCT is a leading global university and a key African university partner for UWA, including as a co-member of both the Australia Africa Universities Network (AAUN) and the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN). UWA and UCT co-chaired the WUN Global Africa Group during its inaugural term from 2016-18. Prof. Phakeng is also a member of the Advisory Board for the UWA Public Policy Institute.
